Fort Settlement Middle School
Fort Settlement Middle School, is located at 5440 Elkins Road in Sugar Land, Texas. When FSMS opened in 2001 as a small neighborhood school, we never imagined a day like today with an enrollment of close to 1,400 students in grades sixth through eighth. Our international student population reflects the ethnic background of our community. Since opening our doors, Fort Settlement Middle School has provided outstanding educational opportunities for our students. We are committed to meeting the needs of all of our students by fostering a community of academic excellence and social responsibility. We believe that all students can learn at high levels and are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure we meet the needs of our students.
In 2007, FSMS was named a National Blue Ribbon school. In 2012, 2015, and 2020 we received the distinction of State School of Character. In 2013 we were named a Gallup Poll School of High Hope. From 2006 to 2011, FSMS earned the honor of being named a Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll School. We have been redesignated as a National School of Character for 2020 after being awarded the distinction in 2015. Another distinction we are proud to have received is being named as a 2020 School to Watch. While our boundaries and our population have changed since we opened 20 years ago, one thing that has not wavered is our endeavor to maintain high expectations and to emphasize strong character among all associated with our school. Our students enter Fort Settlement Middle School to learn and exit to lead. Our curriculum prepares them for the future by promoting higher levels of thinking and teaching questioning skills. Our character program is integrated into every aspect of our culture starting from day one with our school-wide Falcon Camp program.
The rigorous curriculum at Fort Settlement reflects the goals and target areas of importance identified in our mission statement. We offer elective courses, extracurricular activities, and clubs to reflect the interests and needs of our students. Our award-winning fine arts department includes orchestra, band, choir, art and theatre. The athletic program offers football, girls' volleyball, girls' and boys' basketball, track, and tennis. We have a highly decorated Math Counts Club, award-winning science teams, active student council, soccer club, photography club, and more. Because part of our mission includes social responsibility, we also organize and participate in service learning projects throughout the school year both for our school and our community. We encourage students to be involved in our school and the community to grow as leaders of tomorrow.
