School News: A New Tutoring Model

In recent months, many schools have had to pivot to distance learning, a change that has exacerbated income inequities; some students without reliable Wi-Fi or a quiet space to work have fallen behind. This has meant that the work of Daxton Gutekunst’s nonprofit Kid By Kid is needed more than ever.

Kid by Kid is a free one-on-one tutoring program founded in 2018. The organization seeks to provide individualized teaching to students who may not receive the attention they need in a classroom.

Sophomore Presentation at National Service Learning Conference

One of the benefits of virtual events is how easily you can fit the components into your existing daily schedule and not miss a beat. The National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) invited Daxton Gutekunst ’23 to present a student showcase for their annual conference titled “Engage. Evolve. Energize!”

Sophomores Attend Harvard Undergraduate UNICEF Club Empowering Humanity

Daxton: I was interested in this conference because one of the main themes of the conference was “barriers to education and educational inequalities.” I started my nonprofit, Kid By Kid, to address aspects of this very issue.

Virtual Giving Tree

The Bishop’s community “adopted” 165 refugee families for our annual giving tree holiday service project. Like most things 2020, the project went virtual this year.
